Some horses make good horses appear ordinary. I think that is what some of us saw..........

He is a good horse, no doubt. If Tu Brutus was let to run free instead of being rated, he might have put some pressure on Gun Runner, but he was rated, for some reason. Gun Runner had only cheap speed ahead of him. Keen Ice is a fine pace-dependent horse, but the rest of the runners were not Grade 1 horses. War Story may be at some point, if Navarro is able to work his magic with him.

It was an impressive, but inconclusive performance. I agree with you.

How Gun Runner will fare when faced with real speed horses like Collected or Cupid, then forced to deal with Arrogate later remains to be seen. Right now, he is quite simply the best horse stabled east of the Mississippi and with the 3YO division looking so ordinary, he is the king of the hill.

Agreed- he deserves credit for rising to the occasion and running his best race (which is very good, though not stratospheric) every time he gets his setup, but we have yet to see what happens when he doesn't get an ideal trip, and we already know that A-game Arrogate is easily better even with a massive tactical disadvantage. Not sure if there will be much standing in his way in the Woodward, however.
