Pick six carryovers totaling $389K into Friday's card

A challenging pick six sequence Thursday at Del Mar busted all players after five legs and resulted in a mere three having 5 of 6, and produced carryovers into Friday's card of $252,572 in the general pool and an additional $136,518 in the single-ticket jackpot.

Garcia escapes serious injury in workout spill
...Garcia was aboard the unraced 2-year-old filly Vitality, a daughter of Smart Strike who was nearing her career debut for trainer Bob Baffert. She had worked five furlongs in company in 59.40 seconds before she was stricken. She had to be euthanized on the track, a rare fatality during a Del Mar season that has been largely free of catastrophic injuries.

Vitality was owned by Juddmonte Farms, which purchased Vitality as a yearling for $330,000 last September at Keeneland...

It seems like Del Mar had better luck than Saratoga, which, last I read, had 18 fatalities?

Del Mar enjoys strong - and safe - meeting
One year after a summer season that was one of the most difficult in the track’s history, Del Mar bounced back this summer with a meeting that was up in handle, featured high-quality racing, had robust field size, and, most importantly, had a terrific safety record.

The track reported handle was up by 5.1 percent from a year ago for the 36-day season, which ended Monday, to an average of more than $12.5 million per day. Daily average ontrack attendance was 13,240, a dip of 1.5 percent.

Del Mar averaged 8.6 runners per race, well above the 8.3 average of a year ago, a significant feat racing five days per week on a circuit that usually races four days per week, and at times went down to three days per week during the elongated Santa Anita season.
