Gun Runner Eyes Triumphant Homecoming in Stephen Foster

The chestnut colt looked unassuming enough as he went through a routine paddock schooling session at Churchill Downs last week.

I think TVG still can't broadcast the Churchill races, but at least we'll be able to watch the Foster and Fleur de Lis on NBCSN Saturday night.

Gun Runner got an unopposed early lead and was fantastic, walking home in a quick time. He has become an awfully good horse.

He was always a pretty good horse, I just needed him to be GOOD when I had him to win the KY Derby last year :D

He's got a nice mixture of speed and general athleticism.

One of my other favorite horses, Jackson Bend, was like that.

Ha, I didn't believe in him in last year's Derby at all and he completely ruined my bets! He's always been talented and a hard-trier, but much like Mor Spirit, he's really kicked it up a notch this year. How nice to have so many good older horses this year... and one great one.

I wonder when we'll see the best East-of-the-Rockies older horse meet up with one or more of the Baffert Brigade? Will Cupid, Danzing Candy and/or Mor Spirit be headed to Saratoga this summer?
We've already read that Arrogate will be staying on the Left Coast and only racing at Del Mar, so it will be easy for Gunrunner to avoid the big grey until until he has to face him...again...in the Classic.

Agree completely.

Candy Ride ought to be getting the same sort of blue-blooded mares as Tapit, MDO, etc.
