Kitasan Black is one of the most magnificent TBs I've ever seen. Paint that white star black and he would be the perfect 'actor' for a new movie about Walter Farley's The Black.

That was a great race all around for Rey d'Oro! And I thought Danburite did really well too, he fought back though he tired at the finish. 8-) Thanks for the replay tachyon!

That's not exactly true. The Sheikh who bred Shetan (The Black) was trying to achieve the perfect racehorse, both fast and of great endurance, to win the cross-country race that figures so prominently in Return of the Black Stallion.
IIRC, his dam was a lovely grey Arabian mare ridden by the Sheikh's daughter. I got the impression that the top line of the pedigree, however, had TB blood introduced to get that perfect racehorse. After all, the stallion was 17 hands, so....
He still shouldn't have been allowed to race under American Jockey Clubs rules, of course, which is why that race against Cyclone and Sun Raider was set up as a match race. No ordinary, "official" rules. ;)
Mr. Farley never really explained away The Black's checkered pedigree past in the books, and his offspring were allowed to go on to win the Derby (Black Minx) and Triple Crown (Satan). It was 1947, so maybe the JC registration rules weren't a detail that he thought his readers cared much about.
Speaking as a reader who had almost every book in the long series, IMHO he was probably right.

The Japanese Derby runner-up Suave Richard(JPN)[C3. Heart's Cry(JPN) x Pirramimma(USA) by Unbridled's Song(USA)] won impressively the G2 Copa Republica Argentina 2500m turf at Tokyo Nov 5th 2017 in his first start since the Derby, demolishing older horses.
Now, how good is Rey de Oro?????

Suave Richard will not be pointed to the Japan Cup in three weeks but to the Arima Kinen in December. :|
