Two gate drills in a row from SPD. It must be close to "go" time.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

The 7th at Del Mar, another state-bred MSW for two-year-olds, was taken by Take the One O One. That makes me very happy, as the handsome, nearly-black colt is by Acclamation, who I dearly hope will carry on Unusual Heat's legacy.

That's nice to hear. Acclamation was a neat horse and it would be something if he could carry on the sire line. He was definitely best as an older horse so it's good to see him with a promising juvenile winner.

Larry Jones homebred by Kodiak Kowboy out of Just Jan, whose claim to fame was she was the workmate of Grace.

Named Kowboy Karma, he debuted Wed at Del Park. Watch the replay at BH. He ran like daddy, a closing sprinter, and just blew by the field to win by 12 or so. He got an 85 Beyer and even more impressive, a 7 rag. He's a gelding and by a very sound side, so I hope he turns out to be a really good one who races for years.
I was wondering what kind of Beyer he'd get. I was watching on Wednesday and must admit his middle move was visually very impressive. Not sure what he was beating, but I'm intrigued. Hopefully he shows up at Saratoga next month.
Made a believer out of me today!

KOWBOY KARMA ROMPS – AND PROMPTS BIG DREAMS
There are only so many questions a two-year-old can answer in his second race.

But it’s safe to say that Kowboy Karma answered them in emphatic fashion today at Delaware Park, and when trainer — and breeder, and part-owner — Larry Jones goes to bed tonight, he’ll likely drift off to sleep by counting superlatives.

“This horse is fast,” Jones said in the winner’s circle following this afternoon’s $50,000 Strike Your Colors Stakes at Delaware Park. “I’ve had a few fast horses before, but I’ve got to put this horse here in the category of the Hard Spuns and horses like this, and with Eight Belles and those kind of horses. This horse is talented.”

That’s high praise, indeed. Hard Spun ran up nearly $2.7 million in earnings under Jones’s tutelage — running second in the Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic — and the ill-fated filly Eight Belles won two graded races prior to breaking down in the gallop-out after finishing second in the Kentucky Derby.

In his debut, Kowboy Karma won by a dozen lengths in eye-popping fashion.

Today under Alex Cintron, Kowboy Karma was away slowest of the seven-horse field, with Cintron biding his time through the early going.

Not a bad second for him, but IMHO Run Away was super impressive. He looks to have the size and stride to be able to step up from the Best Pal's 6 1/2 furlongs.

Soul Streit scores touchdown for owner Kirk Herbstreit

College football season begins in a couple of weeks, and preparation for that kept Kirk Herbstreit from being at Del Mar on Sunday to watch the first horse he’s ever owned, Soul Streit, make his debut.

But he was on the phone to trainer Bob Baffert immediately after the race, with shouts of joy after Soul Streit stamped himself as a possible Del Mar Futurity prospect with an eye-catching victory.

Another impressive win for March X Press, Shanghai Bobby 2 year old filly. Slow start, held up in traffic, nice kick, making her the first stakes winner for the Coolmore stallion.

She's already shown a lot of grit and tenacity in two lifetime starts. According to Pletcher she may ship to Woodbine for the Natalma.

Firstmate just trounced the field in the Northern Light Debutante (at Canterbury Park) after being 2nd last coming into the stretch! I know this wasn't a prestigious race and the field probably wasn't that impressive but wow that win was certainly impressive, worth a watch if someone can find a replay! And it was the first start for this Midshipman filly.
