Matt's Derby Dozen 2017

Matt's Derby Dozen 2017

1. One Liner--looks and runs much differently than Vyjack, Vicar's in Trouble or Goldencents.
2. Irish War Cry--easy lead but looked good and should go further.
3. McCracken--several horses seemed to run career bests in his win, but he did look good.
4. Tapwrit--had some trouble and still finished pretty well.
5. Iliad--still has plenty to prove but showed potential.
6. American Anthem--showed his stuff in the Sham.
7. Mastery--training up a storm, but that is the norm.
8. Mo Town--we'll see where he's at this weekend.
9. El Areeb--needs to run faster, but I am only picking him 9th.
10. West Coast--pretty nice debut.
11. Royal Mo--test will come when he faces better but showed some talent.
12. Malagacy--flashed some talent, much to prove.

Was wondering if you'd post a list this year... your 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 are all on my radar. One Liner looked pretty good on Monday. I want to see him against better going 9F; good to hear they're considering 2 more preps if he is indeed Derby-bound.

1. McCraken
2. Irish War Cry
3. Mastery
4. American Anthem
5. Iliad
6. Irish Freedom
7. Gormley
8. One Liner
9. Royal Mo
10. El Areeb
11. Mo Town

Notes: One Liner was impressive in the Southwest and was given a high BSF for his efforts, but keep in mind that he was only toting 115lbs.

Matt, appreciate your comments and insight, glad you've outlasted some of the critics. (Where did Thinair and Dustino go? Not that I miss them overall.) Looking forward to your analysis as things progress.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

For the second straight year, the one I might consider is trained by Hollendorfer, he wouldn't run a filly in the Derby if she could run 10f in 1:59 flat.

Thanks! I've been super busy (my second book was published in January) but I peek in now and then and thought I'd finally post my Derby list.

I didn't think I would do a Derby Dozen because I have been so busy with writing (and promoting) but watched some of the Derby preps and in got me in the mood.
