I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Not a trainer or jockey, but still....
TVG's Paul Loduca just announced that he's leaving TVG, and today's shift at Santa Anita was his last.
I know I've made fun of Paulie's mangled English and his tendency to mix up the genders of the horses running, but he was one of the few on-air hosts who could keep Todd Schtupp in line.
Going back to New York, to do....?
Stay tuned, I guess.

Pimentel out until fall with fractured vertebra

Jockey Julian Pimentel was badly injured in a Saturday training accident at Laurel Park and will be sidelined until fall.

Pimentel, 36, was exercising a horse who fell and then landed on top of him, according to his agent, Ronny Gerardo. Pimentel has a fractured T-12 vertebra in his back and also tore the meniscus in his left knee and fractured his knee cap. Pimentel is currently fitted with a back brace and a knee brace.

Los Al: Announcer Ed Burgart to retire in 2018
Ed Burgart, the most recognizable voice in Quarter Horse racing, plans to retire as track announcer at Los Alamitos next June, he said on Friday.
Burgart said his retirement will coincide with his 66th birthday next year. He plans to spend more time at a retirement home he built in 2006 in Prescott Valley, Ariz.,
Burgart has worked at Los Alamitos since 1977 and has been an announcer at Los Alamitos since the early 1980s. He also worked as a track announcer at Hollywood Park for a few autumn Thoroughbred meetings in the 1990s.
A full story will appear on DRF.com later this afternoon.

I've found Ed to be one of the most accurate announcers around, a necessity when you only have a quarter mile or less to call the horses. He knows his horses, and not just the Quarters.
I will miss him. Hope he enjoys his retirement.
It seems like so many of the great race callers, who have been a major part of my racing enjoyment, have been retiring over the last year or so.
Where has the time gone?

Any news on Chantal Sutherland, apparently in a lot of pain after a paddock accident today at Los All?
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Ana O'Brien returns home from hospital after horror fall
Ana O'Brien is home from hospital to continue her recuperation from the injuries she suffered in a horrific fall at Killarney on July 18.

The 21-year-old suffered fractured vertebrae in her neck and back and also fractures to her cheekbones. She was transferred from the racecourse by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

Her father Aidan said on Wednesday: "Ana was released from hospital yesterday. She's delighted to be home and, all things considered, she's in good form and very grateful and appreciative of the excellent care she received both at Killarney and in hospital."

Flores to retire from saddle, become trainer
Jockey David Flores is retiring this weekend.

Flores said Wednesday that he plans to ride at least through Friday at Del Mar, and possibly through the weekend, before relocating to Ocala, Fla., to begin a training operation focused on pinhooking yearlings.

Flores has spent time working in a similar capacity in Florida in recent years, but said he wants to train full time. He said he could have runners at Florida’s racetracks in 2018.
