Remsen winner Mo Town set for 3yo debut in Risen Star, per trainer Tony Dutrow
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

At Tampa Bay downs yesterday, $1.3 million purchase Monaco broke his maiden by a dozen. He's by Uncle Mo out of a Sky Classic mare (with Vigors also on the dam side).

Trainer Mark Casse said this morning that CLASSIC EMPIRE will not make the March 4 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream as had been tentatively planned but that all subsequent preps for the 143rd Kentucky Derby remain entirely possible. The reigning divisional champion was scheduled to breeze tomorrow (Monday) morning toward the Fountain of Youth, but that plan has been scrapped because of a nagging hoof abscess.

"He's not going to miss any training," said Casse, noting the colt has galloped daily at the Palm Meadows training center since Monday (Feb. 13) after recovering sufficiently from the injury diagnosed after the colt finished third here in the Feb. 4 Holy Bull. "I just want the foot to heal a little better. Making the Fountain of Youth isn't that important to us. We still have plenty of time (toward the May 6 Derby) and we want to do the right thing by the horse."

Casse said the timing of a breeze tomorrow would have been critical toward the Fountain of Youth, but now, he'll postpone the colt's next work with a different prep in mind, including a possible run in the March 11 Tampa Bay Derby at Tampa Bay Downs.

"We'll consider every race," he said. "We plan to give him another week of galloping and reassess things from there. I'm not going to put any pressure on myself or the horse to make this particular race."

Casse said the abscess on the right front hoof "still has a touch of drainage" and the affected spot is being treated accordingly. "We tub it and ice him, everything we're supposed to be doing," he said.

A winner in 4 of 5 starts last year, including the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Classic Empire has been the favorite among all individual wagering interests in the first two pools in the 2017 Ky. Derby Future Wager (the mutuel field was the overall favorite in both). Pool 3 in the Derby futures, as well as the lone Ky. Oaks futures pool, will be offered this coming weekend (Feb. 24-26) by Churchill Downs.

Undefeated Epicharis Qualifies For Kentucky Derby With Hyacinth Victory
Epicharis (Jpn) defeated Adirato (Jpn) in the Hyacinth at Tokyo Racecourse on Sunday to remain unbeaten in four starts; the colt garnered 50 points and an invitation to compete in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands on Saturday, May 6 at Churchill Downs.

In this article there's a video of the race and a photo of Epicharis as a weanling...and a more gorgeous foal you will not find. His sire, Gold Allure, recently passed, and I'm glad he has given us a potential Derby runner.

Epicharis Earns Japan's Kentucky Derby Bid
Epicharis, a grandson of Sunday Silence, earned a guaranteed spot in the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (G1) with a victory in the Feb. 19 Hyacinth Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse.
With the win Epicharis is now undefeated in four starts and it gave him 50 qualifying points in Churchill Downs' Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby standings. Mont Saint Legame, who earned 40 points for his victory in the first of the qualifying races in November, came in 10th in the Hyacinth but remains in second place in the rankings.

Baffert's Bronze Age joins Triple Crown trail
Bronze Age won his debut at a mile, and third career start, with a convincing 1 1/2-length victory in 1:35.29 Saturday at Santa Anita. He beat two well-regarded Baffert-trained prospects in West Coast, who had his career debut Saturday and finished with interest, and Glacier, who was a well-beaten third.

I saw the race and he was pretty impressive. The Mineshaft colt sold for $600,000 at Fasig-Tipton last year, and races in the Juddmonte colors.

^^^^

Fastest mile of the season at SA according to TVG, although they were making the point that the rain has made the track tight. The F&M stake had a mile fraction (run at 1 1/16) well over a second slower.

Speed and fade in two sprints, but clearly appreciated the chance to slow down a bit on the front end in a route.

Irish Freedom, by PotN x a Smart Strike mare, who is x a Danzig mare, who is x a Cougar II mare.
Beautiful route pedigree. There's always the Travers. ;)
Four works: 3F, 4F, 5F, today 6F. Travers? Ha!

Seriously, I hope they don't rush him into more issues. :(

ETA the colt he ran down in his debut last summer was Royal Mo.

Shame Classic Empire isn't having the smoothest run to the TC so far . I still think he's got the most talent. Would hate to see him have to miss the Derby.

For Irish War Cry fans
white sleeves
http://www.xbtv.com/video/irish-war-cry ... th-stakes/

Trainer Graham Motion said "he couldn't be happier" with Irish War Cry's final work for next Saturday's Fountain Of Youth after his undefeated 3-year-old breezed five furlongs in 1:01.80 and galloped out six panels in 1:13.40 according to Daily Racing Form clocker Mike Vesce, this morning at Palm Meadows.

Vesce caught Irish War Cry in splits of 13.40, and 37.60 for his opening three-eighths and had him pulling up seven furlongs in 1:27.80. The work was the first and only one Irish War Cry has had since his eye catching 3 3/4 length victory in the Grade 2 Holy Bull here three weeks earlier.

"I thought the work was really perfect," said Motion. "Waiting to work him until today is nothing unusual for this horse. I normally don't work horses back until three weeks after they run. I think he's done everything well since his last race and don't see any reason not to go on to the next one. He's here, he's doing well and he needs the racing."
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.
