It may be time for The Grey Gatsby to hang up his racing saddle. He didn't run very well a few weeks ago in the C.L.Hirsch. Just now, in the G2 Knickerbocker at Belmont, he crossed the wire last, well behind the field. Sort of eased up and looking kind of ouchy. :(
He was a top racehorse in Europe for quite a while, but it appears that even a move to the Colonies, with ostensibly easier competition, hasn't rejuvenated him.
Is he intact (Bloodhorse has him as a "colt," FWIW), or a gelding? At six, I would have thought he would be retired by now if he were still an entire.

I believe he is still entire.

It's a shame he has tailed off so much; I first started following after he landed the French Derby. I always thought he was so eye-catching, being a grey with all of that chrome.

I've noticed that when people (like on TVG) talk about the horses running in the Classic, Hoppertunity's name never comes up. :? No respect?
It sure looks like he's being trained for a race, and I can't think of another BC race besides the Classic that would suit him.

I had the same question, more or less. Anyone know the answer? :P ;)

I don't know any more than you two but I do know Santa Anita usually runs an overnight stake named the Big Bear at the end of its' meet. If Hoppertunity fits the condition of that race, I would guess he'd go in there and then the Clark. With his breeding, no stud deal is probably imminent so we may see the equine ATM/Everready Bunny back next year at seven. But if Baffert loves the way he's training.......

"Smooch" Hoppy. :) My guess is that the Clark is the goal.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Indian Sensation to Join Motion Barn
Serjeant At Arms (Ind) (Ikhtiyar {Ire}), winner of 12 of his 14 starts, including 10 black-type events, will soon join the Graham Motion barn to continue his career in the United States, the conditioner confirmed via text Thursday afternoon.

Winner of his first five career trips to the post, the son of Rahy’s Serenade (Rahy) took out the 2016 Kingfisher Ultra Derby Bangalore last July (video, gate 1 http://www.indiarace.com/VideoFiles/BAN ... 10/146.mp4), but tasted defeat for the first time in the Mysore Derby (2000m) last October. He atoned for that effort with a convincing success in the Indian 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Mumbai in December (video, gate 3 http://www.indiarace.com/VideoFiles/MUM ... c18/65.mp4). Runner-up in the Kingfisher Ultra Indian Derby this past February, the bay has since rattled off five straight in stakes company, including a latest score in the Karnataka Mile Championship Cup (1600m) at Bangalore Aug. 4 (video, gate 2 http://www.indiarace.com/VideoFiles/BAN ... g4/179.mp4).

Except for Mor Spirit (working with DeFrong), that was seriously ugly. Flagging his tail switching back to left lead in gallop out, looks really short immediately thereafter.

Mor Spirit hasn't been right in awhile and he just got his ass kicked by Drefong.

IIRC, Mor Spirit had to take some time off for some issue...I just can't remember what it was.
Maybe he's still not 100%? Not much time left to get there.
