He beat stablemate Lord Simba handily with the rest of the field, in Michael Wrona' s words, "a street behind."

I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Whitmore won an allowance today! His 2nd allowance win after his 19th in the Derby. I like this gelding by Pleasantly Perfect.

Green Gratto Grinds Out Toboggan Win

Gaston and Anthony Grant's Green Gratto grinded out a gate-to-wire win, with pressure every step of the way, in the Jan. 16 Toboggan Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Dortmund had his first workout under Art Sherman's watch.

I liked this:
"He fills Chrome's stall up pretty good, he walks around there and enjoys having twice the room," Sherman said. "He's always had issues with his feet, so that's the main concern, just getting his feet going good and keeping him sound. He's so big and heavy on himself, I can see how he's going to be a handful to get ready.
"It might take me a couple months, but I'm just going to play it by ear. Now that I've got him the way I think he should be going, I'm under no pressure. Kaleem just said to take my time, he just wants to keep him going."

Most I'm just excited that he'll be running another year.

I hope he can actually get in a full season of racing. IIRC, last year was mostly layoffs due to injuries?

The Mouse That Roared. :D

Hmm...this article describes Forest Mouse as a "horse." Is this nine-year-old still intact?
If so, I hope that he'll be headed off to the shed soon. After earning over $855,000, he's earned a cushy farm job. :P ;)

Yes, he's intact. My understanding is that he will be headed to regional stallion duty upon completion of his racing career - but they just might be looking at that ever so close million dollar mark - so a 10yo season may not be out of the question, unless, of course, he has a stellar 2017. Just a nice, hard trying blue collar horse. Hope he stays safe.

Shaman Ghost came out well of the Pegasus. No set plans yet for his next start.

They make it sound like he is on the brink of going lame at any second. Which I know is the case for any horse, but they really make it sound like soundness could keep him from making it through the year. Odd phrasing.

Hoppertunity Seeks San Antonio Repeat (Mor Spirit is entered too)

Go Hops! I would love to see one of my favorite guys repeat the score... For betting purposes I'd probably take either Accelerate or Dalmore to upset.
Go Hopper!

I'm assuming he's laid up again, because he was supposed to be aiming for the mile race at GP on Saturday. And he hasn't worked since December. On the bright side, his 3YO 1/2 sister has started breezing.

Bal a Bali Training Toward Kilroe Mile
Fox Hill Farms and Siena Farm's Bal a Bali is currently listed on the Calumet Farm online stallion roster, but if all goes as planned, he won't be visiting any mares this year.

Still in training with Hall of Famer Richard Mandella in Southern California, the 2014 Brazilian Triple Crown winner is working toward a start in the March 11 Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1T) and logged a six-furlong drill Feb. 10 in 1:13 3/5 at Santa Anita Park.

"I gave him some time off, and they thought, if he didn't train well, he could go to stud," Mandella said. "But he's training too good to go to stud."
