Los Alamitos Sees Gains During Winter Meet

Los Alamitos Race Course executive Brad McKinzie was significantly upbeat after the last race of Cypress, Calif., racetrack's two-week meet Dec. 18, but even with almost entirely good news to report, he couldn't help but communicate concern with current and future challenges.

Bayakoa Stakes to be run at Los Alamitos winter meeting

The Grade 2 Bayakoa Stakes will be run at the Los Alamitos winter meeting in December, but at a cost.

Overnight purses will be reduced to finance the $200,000 race for fillies and mares, Jack Liebau of Los Alamitos and Greg Avioli of the Thoroughbred Owners of California said on Thursday.

This isn't about Los Al, but I couldn't find a general Quarter Horse thread.

Sale Of Ruidoso Downs Finalized
The sale of Ruidoso Downs, the Billy the Kid Casino and the Ruidoso Horse Sale Company closed on October 12 to a group of four accomplished horsemen and businessmen.
The buyers are Stan Sigman, John Andreini, Narciso “Chicho” Flores and Johnny Trotter. The new ownership is named All American Ruidoso Downs, LLC (AARD) and All American Ruidoso Horse Sales, LLC (AARHS). The four men comprise the board of directors for both entities with Sigman selected as the chairman.
The new ownership group are each racehorse owners and breeders with extensive business experience inside and outside the horse industry.

GOOD FOR Los Al - no one seems to give them credit for what they have done for California horses and racing -
May they run with the WIND

Los Alamitos has done a lot for so CA racing and should be commended. I only wish that the industry wasn't a deer in the headlights when it was evident to everyone Hollywood Park was going away and before Doc Allred sold off land around Los Al. A real nice track could have been built with a turf course as opposed to the 1M bullring that was fashioned with what was left.

Running the Bayakoa means that money is going to be siphoned from the overnight purses. I have the same problem with that as I did with last year's Chrome Invitational. Glad the track is there to run at all though.
