Well this sucks :/ but I guess at least that means there is a higher chance he'll be around for the summer stakes and keep racing next year!

Bummer. Didn't Empire Maker have issues with his feet, too?

Kind of a shame they can't seem to get this colt sound for more than a month.

I was hoping they didn't run him in the Preakness and saved him for the Belmont. He almost got the Preakness but I'm happy he's getting a chance to recover and run the rest of his career w/o the pressure of the the TC schedule.

I was also hoping he would skip the Preakness in favor of Belmont. Excited I will get to see him here at Monmouth for the Haskell!

He'll be more fresh for Saratoga or The Haskell, hopefully he heals up quick and summer time means more luck.

I wish they'd geld him. Because you know breeders are going to forget all about this and line up for him next spring.

His problems have been with an abscess. Isn't that something that could happen to any horse if they suffer some sort of injury to the frog or sole of the hoof? :?
It doesn't seem to be a 'soundness' issue, IMHO...at least, not like a structural problem that might be passed on to offspring.

Yeah, abscesses don't scream "unsound" to me. Mostly they scream "f@#$ing horses in the spring!"

I also have seen horses pop an abscess and be sound as a fiddle immediately after. But he's gonna miss some gallops and that's not ideal. If the race were next week, he'd still be in the gate.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

Abscesses aren't genetic. And it's the same foot he had it in. It probably didn't get a chance to fully fill back in, and with spring time, it's created a perfect storm. Should Empire Maker also have been gelded? We wouldn't have had our 12th Triple Crown winner then
That's a bit of an absurd statement.
I seem to recall EM's abscess was right around Derby time and cost him the victory there.

i'd personally forget all about a health issue that has nothing to do with genetics, if i were looking for a stallion prospect. :? :? :?: :?:
Airplanes are actually much, much safer than trains and cars when it comes to flying.
