But then at least say so instead of giving some lame excuses like "it's a different season over there". You knew that from the get go.
Boy, I think you're reading a lot into this. Losing a step? Her last race was a shorter distance on heavier ground and she still did her job. Winning another Cox Plate would be incredible to say the least. Travel goes both ways. Let them come to the champ. I like that they put the welfare and odds in favor of the horse. She's been doing this for a long time...

I'm not surprised by this news. I've gotten the feeling that her owners never felt like going to Britain was THE MOST important goal for their classy mare. I also wonder if Black Caviar's experience may have played a part in the decision. Yes, Nelly won, but she pulled a muscle in the effort and had to take time off to heal.
The trip to the Northern Hemisphere is a challenge, and the seasonal switch may be even harder on mares (and their hormones) than on the males.

Hovdey: Morning-suit crowd mourns Winx absence
With all the somber pomp and careful language of a royal proclamation, trainer Chris Waller announced this week that the ownership of the Australian superstar Winx, a winner of 24 straight races, has chosen not to send their 7-year-old mare to England for a race at the prestigious Royal Ascot meet in June.

“Winx has nothing to prove to anyone,” wrote Waller. “She is and always will be regarded as a legend of the turf and it is champions like her that make up the fabric of this great sport.”

There followed, as night follows the day, a headline in the Irish Times that declared the “Connections of Winx decide to duck Ascot challenge.” And, on the other side of the globe, a headline in the Sydney Morning Herald proclaimed, “Winx dodges Royal Ascot, chases fourth Cox Plate.”

So which is it, duck or dodge? Let’s go to Greg Wood of The Guardian for the tiebreaker:

“Away from her home turf, though, there was an inevitable sense that Winx’s connections had weighed up what would have undoubtedly been a demanding new challenge for their horse – and decided to duck it.”

We have a winner.

Such polite, thinly veiled suggestions of cowardice from the sporting press pander to the worst instincts of their readers, while perpetuating the idea that the media’s main function is to lobby for the latest bright, shiny thing being marketed beyond all reason.

Royal Ascot is that current bright, shiny thing, sold hard at home and abroad. I’ve never been, so I cannot speak to the incalculable joys of wearing rented clothing for five straight days, but I hear it’s a hoot, as well as a national institution of which British racing is rightfully proud.

It is not, however, the ultimate test of ability in the Thoroughbred racehorse. There is no such ultimate test, only a collection of evidence that must be weighed against time, and no single event should require participation when the primary athlete is an animal of odd moods and stubborn frailty. Even one that’s won 24 straight.

Bowman Out Until Queen Elizabeth
Hugh Bowman, the 2017 Longines World’s Best Jockey and rider of Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}), will be on the sidelines until partnering the 6-year-old mare in the Apr. 14 G1 Queen Elizabeth S. Bowman suffered a severe concussion when falling from Performer (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) in the G2 Todman S. on Mar. 10, and sat out a week before returning to ride Winx to win last weekend’s G1 George Ryder S. (and Performer in the Golden Slipper-that one beat just two home). Bowman was riding at Warwick Farm on Wednesday but was stood down after it was determined he was suffering from concussion after effects and a subsequently discovered viral infection. Bowman will need medical clearance to ride Winx in two weeks’ time.

So, instead of the earlier assessment of a "mild" concussion, they have finally figured out he has a severe concussion.
IMHO, there may not be such a thing as a "mild" concussion. I hope Hugh really takes enough time off to heal, and hope even more that he doesn't get another one. :(

Winx, with Hugh up, just put in a five furlong work at Randwick between their 1st and 2nd races on the first night of The Championships. She looked very good.
Of course, IMHO, she always looks good, but she seemed a bit more muscle-y, and her coat was really dappled. She appears to be fit and ready for next week's Queen Elizabeth.

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
I'm at a loss for words. She went from last to first....on the far outside...and just zoomed away to win by open lengths.
She may be the best horse I've ever seen, and I've seen some greats.

She apparently went 10.80 in one of her final eighths, when she went by the field to pull away, I would guess. She does top sprinter speed at the end of a staying race.

She takes 2 strides to every other horses one, if not more. Honestly after the race she didn't even look like she raced yet.

She will get a freshening now. No word on what her next race will be. The past two years, after her April starts, she freshened and came back in August in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes at Randwick.

The Warwick has been upgraded to a Group 1 this year and they had announced last year it was going to be named the Winx Stakes for the 2018 running.
