By the looks of it, they are wrapping him in so much cotton he could pass for a cotton wool snow horse.

I doubt they won't enter him anywhere else if what Baffert says is true about him practically knocking down his stall door with excess energy.

Read on Paulick report that our boy Arrogate is back in serious training and possibly aiming for the San Diego HC in July? Go Arro go!

Juddmonte Farms’ Arrogate, the dynamic 4-year-old colt who has set racing afire with a series of powerful winning performances in the world’s top races, appears likely to make his next start in the TVG San Diego Handicap on Saturday, July 22 at Del Mar, it has been announced.

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Rich Perloff just relayed the news; TVG is going to sponsor the San Diego as well as the Pacific Classic. Del Mar is going to get an Arrogate triple treat, with runs in the San Diego, Pacific Classic and then the BC Classic.

In keeping with our 'does weight even matter' conversation, what weight do you think Arrogate will receive in the San Diego Handicap? Shouldn't this big grey carry at least as much as the mare, Desert Madam, who is nowhere near to being The Best Horse In the World? IIRC, that was 131, but IMHO he should get at least 132.
But...would that weight motivate Baffert to NOT run his colt? :?

It's about the separation in weights/weight differences, so it will depend on who else is in there. But I suspect there will be some light weights. . . .

They'll probably give him 126, same as Chrome last year, and adjust everyone else slightly downwards. Carrying weight is largely pointless and probably dangerous anyways, may as well keep everyone as happy as possible.

When has weight ever been implicated in a racehorse injury? Arrogate is a big strong horse, he can more than handle >130lbs.

It has here- http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 3303001412. The study is about hunt horses and others around the world have been less conclusive about weight carried, but I'm not certain that there are enough high-weight data to truly gauge the effects on dirt (plus those big observational studies are super difficult to design and analyze). This study also torpedoes the romantic image of the drug-free European racehorse... but I digress.

I honestly don't have much interest or put much stock in weights, and I think the length per pound (or whatever it is) rule is completely preposterous at the standard weight range, but I'd also rather not see good horses endangered out of a need to give a race slightly more intrigue. While I get the appeal of seeing this horse check off more boxes, a decent, respectful weight spread and a race against the clock works for me. Hopefully they are able to find a middleground that keeps everyone relatively happy.

Here's a brief video of the end of the work... you'd be forgiven for thinking it's the gallop-out. https://twitter.com/camillayakteen/stat ... 8459246592

I really hope he runs in the San Diego because I made arrangements months ago for a weekend at Del Mar. Arrogate would be quite the bonus!
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

This horse is so frelling ready to run right now that I wonder if Baffert is going to be able to keep him on the ground for the next four weeks.
