Appleby needs bubble wrap for his horses. Emotionless came up lame last week, Hamada was euthanized, and Cross Counter suffered a cut yesterday that going to keep him out of training for a few days.

Yucatan who won the Herbert Power Stakes on Saturday has been penalised 2.5kg by the Racing Victoria handicapper which guarantees him a start in the MelbCup

They are dropping like flies. Just confirmed Emotionless has a injury to his right hind leg and wont race in the Melbourne Spring Carnival

After the success of Jungle Cat and Benbatl, it looked like Godolphin's UK trainers would have a dynamite Spring Carnival. This is really too bad, especially for Appleby.

Another one out. Count Octave, who had arrived from the UK to be trained by Waller, will not race in the Spring Carnival after some heat was detected in a foreleg

The latest round of accpetors have just been released for the Cup next Tuesday. Several horses have been withdrawn after the weekends racing but there is still plenty of racing on Wed and Sat that will also have a effect on the final field of 24.

Note 3yo colt Thinkin Big is a acceptor, he will race in the Victoria Derby on Saturday
Current order of entry is here

I don't know if anyone plays videogames here or mobile games on phones/tablets, but the game Horse Haven: World Adventures is having a Melbourne Cup event for the first time! I believe they are also introducing a new exclusive horse named Icy... (Perhaps a reference to Subbie?)

They've had a KY Derby event two years in a row now so it's nice to see them expanding to include racing from elsewhere!

Red Verdon is now under a injury cloud after shifting a plate and damaging his hoof. His jockey Damian Oliver bruised his foot yesterday at the Geelong races so perhaps it is a sympathy injury?!

Red Verdon has passed a vet check today but now Tosen Basil is said to be out of the Cup after a underwhelming work.

All final acceptors for the MelbCup must pass a vet check tomorrow afternoon before the final field of 24 (& barriers) are declared tomorrow night

EDIT Racing Victoria have already done inspections and have just released this statement

Melbourne Cup hopefuls Red Verdon and Nakeeta have passed their vet inspections this morning. There are two more to inspect plus any horse that races today needs to pass another inspection by 4:30 local to race again on Tuesday (the last cup hopeful races at 3:50!)

A Prince Of Arran has won his way into the MelbCup and now just needs to pass a vet check in a coiple of hours time. The Victoria Derby winner can also win his way in later today

The final field and barriers for the MelbCup will be announced late tonight and I will post it once the barriers come out

It's hard to imagine that a horse who is lame now will not still be lame just three hours later...unless medication is involved?

Something to consider is the weather. We could have a wet Cup this year with showers/rain forecast Monday and Tuesday and even the chance of thunderstorms!
