Joining the ranks. He does have a nice pedigree, So You Think (NZ) - Black Minx (NZ) by Lonhro. Maybe he got the tendency from his dam, and he's a black beauty, lol.

Serial biter So Si Bon to be gelded
Serial biter So Si Bon will race on with his owners deciding to have him gelded.

So Si Bon was banished from the racetrack last Saturday after taking a nip at Yesterday’s Songs as the field leapt from the barriers in a 1400m race at Flemington.

It was the third time the four-year-old had savaged another runner in his 25 start career that has to date netted one win and eight placings.

So Si Bon first came to the attention of Racing Victoria stewards last November when he tried to bite a rival in the Sandown Classic.

At his first run for Lindsay Park in March’s Newmarket Handicap at Flemington, he had a nip at former stablemate, the Robbie Laing-trained Missrock, and was ordered back to the trials.

With the addition of blinkers he passed two trial tests and was on his best behaviour until last Saturday.

Stewards placed a ban on So Si Bon preventing him from racing until a decision was made by connections whether his career lay as a future stallion or racehorse.

“He’s going off to be gelded today,” senior Lindsay Park trainer David Hayes said.

“Hopefully this will sort him out and he can get back to winning races.”

With a pedigree and looks like that, it can't be easy for the connections to give up hope that he could make a sire. Too bad his behavior has been so aggressive. It's also possible his hormones have distracted him from running his best, since his record is modest, at best.
Hope it works out for them. Geldings can be biters, too.

Joking to return from long layoff in True North
The Grade 1 winner Joking, who has not raced in 20 months, is expected to return in the Grade 2, $250,000 True North Stakes on June 8, owner and trainer Charlton Baker said this week.

“I’m aiming high,” Baker said. “I might shoot a little low, but I’m aiming high.”

Joking, now 9, won the True North in 2016 and then, off a layoff of nearly four months, won the Grade 1 Vosburgh that October to earn a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita. Joking got sick after shipping to Southern California for the Breeders’ Cup, and the illness morphed into a life-threatening case of pneumonia. Joking spent several months recovering in Southern California, returned to Baker in New York, and was put back into training last year.

Twice, Joking popped a splint bone – one in each leg, Baker said – forcing Baker to stop on him. Joking has worked 10 times since March 27, including a five-furlong move in 1:00.98 out of the gate on Monday over the Belmont training track. Baker said Joking would have one more work over the weekend.

“It’s a tough spot, but we’ll give it a go if everything’s good,” Baker said.

Joking is certainly a Belmont horse for the course, with six wins and three seconds from nine starts here.

Entries for the True North will be taken Sunday. Among those expected for the race are Imperial Hint, Bobby Abu Dhabi, Limousine Liberal, Recruiting Ready, Westwood, Whitmore, and possibly Skyler’s Scramjet.
