Hoist the Flag was the best horse I ever rode, by far... It wasn't Seattle Slew.

That's a pretty nice field...doesn't look like 'Dan has scared anyone off. This race may be an early match-up of many who will probably be in the BC Mile, except for the West Coast horses like Obviously.

So Handsome Mike is entered here off his stellar recent form? 10th in the Pat O'Brien and 8th in the Met Mile gets him a ticket to face this field? Poor thing.

Handsome Mike has had a tough time of it lately. I'm sure they are hoping that he can pull off another Commonwealth Stakes type
of performance. That seems to have been his summit, thus far, but it does not appear that running against Wise Dan will cause
that to happen on Saturday.

Nice field for the Shadwell though. Mr. Lopresti can't be too disappointed in the 10 hole for Dan...

Tall order for Summer Front, but I think he can hit the top 3, even if he can't beat Wise Dan.

Winning Prize may be the best horse Dan has faced year to date. He just might make him work for it. Wise Dan should win of course but I'll have my eye on Winning Prize. I find it curious that he shipped here instead of staying home to take on Obviously. Drysdale likely feels pretty good about his horse. He'll find out just how good he is in a big hurry.

Silver Max also seems like he's getting back to the form we all expected from him last fall. He's not an easy horse to pass on his day and the Romans barn started to get back in form with Little Mike last year.

This should be a good test for Dan and I don't think the odds will reflect the difficulty of his task.

This guy has continually disappointed, but his form looks decent and he has run well in the past going synthetic to turf; I'm going to give Willcox Inn another shot in here. There is nothing that Wise Dan needs to prove, but it will be interesting to watch Wise Dan from an outside post in a big field with two tough horses on the lead, Silver Max and Winning Prize; he blew the field away a year ago in this race. I think Willcox Inn will be poised behind that group.

I think the only one who will beat Wise Dan, is himself. One day when he isn't feeling
well or bored maybe but if they all run their race I don't see anyone beating him here
Good luck

The Shadwell Stakes record is 1:33.72 by Altibr in 2000. Track Record is 1:33.54 by Perfect Soul. Rain has moved in to Keeneland as I was posting this.....Wise Dan ran a 1:34.94 last year....

Race has been taken OFF the turf. Scratches to come, I'm sure.

Has 'Dan run on synthetic before?

Thanks. Seems to make this race easier for 'Dan, since he has shown he can win on almost any surface...not so true of the turf specialists in the race.

This will no longer be a G1 (pending review) and is no longer a WAYI race.

I don't think I agree. The majority of horses in the field with both synthetic and turf form appear to be equally effective on both. I'm guessing if you asked Fink and Lopresti, though, they'd rather this be a turf race.

After review, they'll affirm it as a Grade 1.

Lopresti doesn't seem to have a problem with it being taken off the turf. Both his entries will run on the poly. He said he would have scratched Wise Dan if they had kept it on the turf.
