No, I meant saddlecloths keyed to program numbers. They all wore dark blue.

Can't believe I just heard the names of Vigors and Seattle Slew invoked in the analysis of an Arabian race. Pretty horses, but they are oh soooo sloooowwww.

What a move from So Big Is Better! Could not believe the odds on him, he is such a classy horse. I think he's now won more races than any of Burning Sand's progeny. Nice to see No Problem al Maury get up for 2nd in his first dirt race.

Being unsaddled on the clubhorse turn. I saw him stumble a little pulling up so hopefully it's just exhaustion.

Wow...So Big Is Better made a HUGE move around the turn...passed the others as though someone snuck Hansen into this field. So Big is So Much Better.
Uh oh...he's being unsaddled on the backside...not being brought back to the winner's circle. Hope it's just the heat, and not an injury. :(

Hopefully just the heat. What a win!

I just watched a replay on calracing, and I think he hurt himself in the middle of the stretch. It's probably why he was bearing out, and when he went under the wire, he was clearly not moving well. And the frelling jockey was cellebrating and pumping his fist...and doing nothing to protect the horse...ignorant POS (and I'm not referring to the Princess).

As a proud Pretty Pony Person, I am happy with this.

So Big Is Better has a much more elegant, Arab-y look to him than a lot of Arabian racehorses.

Same here, but at least I got to see it.

Any update on the winner?

From Paulick's Twitter window: Arabian race winner So Big Is Better gets smattering of applause from crowd as he heads up stretch in horse ambulance. Pulled up bad.
I don't like the sound of that. :(

If you watch the race on Calracing, the winner tripped or took a bad step pulling up . Didn't look obviously unsound in the fuzzy video, so hoping a gimpy pullup warranted the vet and the ambulance .

Darling looking guy ..

Hopefully we'll get an update. It's usually impossible to find info on what's going on with the Arabians (like I mentioned before, the Horse of the Year has been MIA since July with no news) but this one should get a little more press. Sometimes I feel like the only person who really follows Arabian racing religiously haha.

Here's some pictures I took of So Big Is Better in 2010. I wish I still lived in California and could have been at the race today. :( He's always been one of my favorites and he really is a good looking dude, like a lot of Burning Sand babies.

Sounds like a relatively happy ending, going out on a high note. Maybe they were thinking this anyway:

Steve Andersen ‏@DRFAndersen
So Big Is Better, 9 yo, will be retired to stud, according to owner Mark Powell. He has been bred to mares in recent years.

That sounds like encouraging news but too bad he didn't get to end his career on his own terms. He does have a yearling registered but it's not a purebred so obviously won't race. Wish him the best at stud and can't wait to see his babies on the track. Raced for seven years, won all over the country, won stakes at distances from 6 furlongs to 1 1/4 miles.

Good that he is okay. He ran here At Arapahoe Park this summer and was gorgeous to look at up close.

DRF story is up and says it's a possible suspensory.

Roxane Losey, who was aboard for many of his early wins, left a nice comment on the article:

I am saddened to hear he was injured. I saw the bad step after the wire and suspected such. SO glad to hear it was not life threatening....He may be "just" an Arabian to most, but I can tell you from personal experience he is a true warrior and a finer racehorse you may never meet....Congratulations Mr. BIG and recover well my friend.

"Just" an Arabian? I think sometimes hard-bitten TB fans forget that it was three stallions very much like So Big who were the foundation sires for all TBs.
