Wow, Shug's 2,000th win with Fly So High in the Davona Dale! Strangely run race, but she and Ortiz looked so professional out there. So nice to see, big congratulations!

Caton said that Jose pulled her up because she just didn't feel normal. She walked onto the van with no problem, so maybe just a little too much heat? Hope we get good news soon.

Summarizing what we just posted on http://live.drf.com , Davona Dale winner Fly So High was vanned off after her victory for precautionary reasons, with jockey @jose93_ortiz saying the filly felt sore in her left front. We'll have further info when it becomes available.

McGaughey cautiously optimistic regarding Fly So HIgh prognosis
Trainer Shug McGaughey was cautiously optimistic regarding the prognosis for Fly So High after watching her walk onto the horse ambulance several minutes following her victory in the Grade 2 Davona Dale. Jockey Jose Ortiz dismounted the filly after saying he thought she felt a little uncomfortable in her left front pulling up after the race.

"Jose said when he turned around, she felt a little funny so he jumped off her," said McGaughey. "I thought when she walked on the van she was sound. Patty (Marquis), the state vet, said she was maybe 1 1/2 to 2 off. The filly was a bit pumped up, obviously, and I'm sure when I get back to the barn I'll be able to tell more. But as for something major, she didn't palpate sore or flex sore. Maybe she did something to her foot or jammed something. I'm keeping my fingers crossed."

Just off the phone with Shug McGaughey who says Fly So High is cooling out "100%. "If she does have anything, it's not anything drastic. I think we dodged a bullet."

Not that we didn't already know the man was total class but, a massive thanks to Shug for actually returning a phone call while monitoring his filly and getting ready to saddle another one. #WeHeartShug #HOFInEverySense

Just bumped into Shug walking back to my office and he told me that Fly So High, vanned off after winning the Davona Dale, appears fine and is cooling out perfect at the barn. Very, very good news. And for Shug, the quest for 3k begins in race 11 with Orb's bro, Personal Time.

Fly So High was fine this morning but the tweak to her upper suspensory will be enough for her to miss the Oaks. The filly will have a bit of a break and Shug plans to bring her back for the big summer races, particularly looking forward to running her over two turns.

Barrier Island was also given a break after her disappointing run at Tampa.

The remaining black type filly in training, Parade is also doing well.

Cover Model continues to work nicely in Ocala and is a filly to look forward too.

Fast Talking is an unraced colt and first foal of Puzzling. Has been going well against My Dream is in his works.

Thanks for the update on the Phipps horses, Cladan. Sorry to hear Fly So High will miss the Oaks, but glad she wasn't seriously injured and will be back this summer. Also looking forward to Fast Talking's first start.

Paulick has an article on Fly So High:

Kudos to Jose Ortiz for knowing something was 'off' with his filly. His quick pull-up may have prevented worse injury.

Breaking the Rules made a pleasing debut, particularly given that the colt had little running room. Originally due to debut at Saratoga as a 2yo before a setback, the colt is the 2nd foal and 2nd winner for Protesting. Breaking the Rules is the first of 2 really nice 3yo's from War Front.

He looked like a real professional out there, really took off when he got through on the rail. Hard to believe he was making his first start. Shug had him well prepared!

I absolutely love Sabbatical's War Front colt, Tour Of Duty. Every now and then I check the video, he seems like he has a lot of personality. But I thought it was strange that one of the last photos they included on Foal Patrol clearly isn't them.
