Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

Not to be nitpicky but Justify didn't run in a river in the Preakness... It was a sealed wet track and it wasn't even raining by post time. The foggy conditions were impressive but I'm fairly certain that impedes the jockeys moreso than the horses. Throwing around terms like river, monsoon etc. com...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

No explanation for Justify's time in the Belmont. Trainers are allowed to tell a jockey to put a horse in front and slow the pace down. Happens all the time. Perfectly legal. Why run faster than you need to? Also, some horses like to run in company, others put distance between themselves and their ...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

One more point... supposedly Justify was slow. Which race? Mud in the Derby? He finished first. The River Pimlico in the Preakness? He needed an outboard motor to go any faster. He finished first. Oh, he must only win in mud.... he won the Belmont, too. Against those colts he ran as fast as he had ...

Re: The Melbourne Cup (G1)

Four horses injured, and one euthanized. That's a lot of carnage for one race. I thought our 20-horse Kentucky Derby was a demolition derby, but today's 'Cup made the Derby look like a walk in the park. Was the heavy track an issue? Melbourne Cup fatalities 2013 - Verema breaking her cannon...

they are also showing Melbourne Cup on TVG (on a two minute delay); their pre race show is better- no silly fashion stuff. they are actually talking about the horses

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

Justify. Why did he have to run faster? He won. He didn't run in the Preakness, he was wading. He did that as fast as he had to, too. What did you want, him carrying a pink parisol over the finish line with his ear? Whoopee! You don't like his owners. You can't stand his trainer. They had the utter...

Freddy Head is upset with the state vets decision to scratch Polydream.
He had her out trotting this morning to make a point. Vet refused to watch.
i think that was a terrible decision-- and don't blame Freddy Head for being upset ---

Re: Breeders' Cup Watchalong Thread

I feel bad for Mind Your Biscuits who no way is mile and a quarter horse. i hate to see him retire with this race as his last- if they had put him in a race he belonged in, he may have had a chance to be competitive Once his trainer got his stallion deal done, it became a different set of objective...

Re: Breeders' Cup Watchalong Thread

It looked like the trailing horse was eased at top of the stretch in the Classic. Any idea who that was? I know Lone Sailor was last for the majority of the race so maybe it was him? Just checked Twitter, Roaring Lion was eased. good. his jockey took care of him; RL did not belong in this race.

Re: Breeders' Cup Watchalong Thread

Felt like Sadler could have been a bit more upbeat and gracious when interviewed after the win, but I guess he was irritated by the 0 for 43 constant chatter. Nice to see Bob immediately congratulating him after the race. i agree but it was so rude of the interviewer to bring that subject up again-...

Audible just won the 2nd race on the BC card- coming from the outside and closing well after a long layoff.

According to DRF, Gosden will not run Roaring Lion if the track is sloppy.
that is a great decision. that is what should have happened with George Washington in 2007 and he would still be with us today.
