Re: Horrible Names For Horses

I just found this poor horse's name - she is running at the FG today - 4 year old filly with the name of myositis mystique. Myositis is an inflammation of muscle tissue who the hell names their horse after a disease??? As I live and breathe-- i just don't understand how some owners are so out of it...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

"There’s no timetable you can employ at will. The Triple Crown dates are set in stone, three races in a five weeks, period. You can’t pick and choose." Bob Baffert makes a point. You can't pick and choose. [snip] I argued this earlier in the thread, a few weeks ago. There are ample opportunities fo...

Justify lands on ESPN's dominant 20 list--
Accelerate ain't there
Point being: the triple crown is a very big deal

A really well-done documentary from PBS, available until Dec. 19 online. https://www.pbs.org/video/old-bones-the-story-of-exterminator-rjuav6/ Old Bones: The Story of Exterminator Special | 1h 14m 17s In 1918, a 30-1 long shot won the Kentucky Derby. Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

Put Justify against any other crop of the last 20 years and he would be lucky to win one TC race. He is a very good horse who was born in the right year.................. sorry that is just so much speculation. in any horse racing season a horse runs against the horses who show up. He won the tripl...

Simple formula to keep horses racing longer: make racing more profitable than breeding. pretty simple if you ask me

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

Had Justify won the Triple Crown in 2014, he'd be Horse of the Year. But since AP already did it in 2015, he gets penalized since we already saw AP do it. California Chrome was the 2014 HotY and he failed to win the Belmont and didn't win a dirt race again after the Preakness until 5. Winning a Tri...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

I'm still saying... he beat the horses that lined up against him. Some took the Preakness off and came back for the Belmont. He still beat them. I'm not saying he was Secretariat. What horse could be? In close to a century and a half he was number 13. He did it. Love the connections. Hate his conne...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

Not to be nitpicky but Justify didn't run in a river in the Preakness... It was a sealed wet track and it wasn't even raining by post time. The foggy conditions were impressive but I'm fairly certain that impedes the jockeys moreso than the horses. Throwing around terms like river, monsoon etc. com...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

No explanation for Justify's time in the Belmont. Trainers are allowed to tell a jockey to put a horse in front and slow the pace down. Happens all the time. Perfectly legal. Why run faster than you need to? Also, some horses like to run in company, others put distance between themselves and their ...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

One more point... supposedly Justify was slow. Which race? Mud in the Derby? He finished first. The River Pimlico in the Preakness? He needed an outboard motor to go any faster. He finished first. Oh, he must only win in mud.... he won the Belmont, too. Against those colts he ran as fast as he had ...

Re: The Melbourne Cup (G1)

Four horses injured, and one euthanized. That's a lot of carnage for one race. I thought our 20-horse Kentucky Derby was a demolition derby, but today's 'Cup made the Derby look like a walk in the park. Was the heavy track an issue?
