Re: Breeders' Cup Picks and Analysis

F&M Sprint Maybe it's PTSD from Ami's Mesa getting nosed out last year, but I am still having a terrible time figuring out this race. Many of these mares don't seem to really want 7f, it looks like there's a ton of pace but not many of them seem to need the lead, and while Marley's Freedom is a wel...

Re: Breeders' Cup Watchalong Thread

Final time in the Juvenile fillies was actually 0.05 seconds quicker. It's happened a few times since the turn of the century. Songbird over Nyquist Ria Antonia over New Year's Day Beholder over Shanghai Bobby Sweet Catomine over Wilko Halfbridled over Action This Day Tempera over Johannesburg Not ...

Re: Breeders' Cup Watchalong Thread

I'm thinking Newspaperofrecord wins this like everyone else but I would try to get The Mackem Bullet and My Gal Betty into the frame behind her.

Re: Breeders' Cup Watchalong Thread

I wish some more interesting horses had made the field like All About It. I feel like I just can't get into any of the longshots here. I know it's juveniles on the turf so anything can happen (and likely will) but I need a reason to pick someone and I just can't convince myself of anyone who is at a...

Re: Breeders' Cup Picks and Analysis

Some picks for today Juvenile Turf Sprint - Strike Silver Juvenile Fillies Turf - Newspaperofrecord Juvenile Fillies - Cassies Dreamer Juvenile Turf - Anthony van Dyck Juvenile - Game Winner Basically all chalk for me other than Cassies Dreamer. I do think that Anthony Van Dyck is by far the least l...

Imperial Hint is prob the closest thing to a "lock" this year, if there is one
I think it's early because preps do change things but Oscar Performance in the Mile is my lock or Marley's Freedom in the FM Sprint.

Where's Kennedy?
Really busy with a million things :)

I am really looking forward to the BC though but now the Distaff has really retreated in terms of the quality of the event. Potentially it's one for the 3yo's to dominate? Or maybe it's just wide open.

Re: Breeders' Cup Top 5

For Breeders Cup purposes I'm just going to ignore Accelerate, because although the horse is very cool Sadler is just terrible in the BC. And I think it's best not to sleep on Gunnevera. I actually had the same thought and really took a pause before just placing him a top my list but at the end of ...

Re: Breeders' Cup Top 5

I like the question and I agree that Elate is the one I'd target if I were looking to push to the Classic. I feel like she, more than perhaps the others, still has such a big scope for improvement. It feels as though she is still building towards a peak that has not been achieved yet and that she is...

It's kind of after the fact because things have changed since the 1st of August but these were BC rankings as of August. Re: Where is the Classic division?

Yeah, the 10 furlong division has been hit hard this year, with top horses like Audible, Justify and West Coast sidelined with various issues. Mendelssohn hasn't looked like he's going to repeat his Dubai performance. Diversify was tremendous in his last race, but is he just a Belmont horse? Has Ar...

Where is the Classic division?

In the last few years we've been pretty lucky not just to have good Breeders Cup Classic winners but also, on paper, those races had some really strong and logical contenders. We may look at a list of the past 3 winners which contains American Pharoah, Arrogate and Gun Runner and even forget that Ph...

Re: Breeders' Cup Top 5

I was close to putting Catholic Boy in the mix for the Turf but I really don't see him as one who would be capable of competing in the Mile. The Mile is about speed a good turn of foot and often favors agile horses. Catholic Boy just isn't the type in my mind and would struggle at the distance. Reme...

I was really impressed with the way she looked. As it stands it looks like the Distaff could be a better race than the Classic!

Re: Breeders' Cup Top 5

I'm a bit late for the start of July but I finally got a chance to sit down and think this through a bit. We're in a bit of a rough spot where so many potential contenders are on the bench and if they're healthy they'll be major contenders but they could just as easily disappear. Tough to make the c...

Re: Breeders' Cup Top 5

Mind Your Biscuits ran so well in the one-turn Met Mile, I wonder if he'll end up in the Dirt Mile instead of the Sprint? He might, it's a long season and things can twist and turn but I think the allure of the prestige and money (double) of the Sprint will make it more appealing. The Sprint carrie...

Re: Breeders' Cup Top 5

Baffert has Ax Man, too. Because the Dirt Mile is a one turn event I don't know if I see a good spot for Ax Man in the Breeders Cup this year. I don't think he can compete with Justify and West Coast at 10f and he's not a one turn horse. Baffert also has Dr. Dorr and possibly even Collected (can't ...
