Re: 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

Just popped on and was looking through recent results.

The Declaration of Wars are really bombing late in the sale.....one sold for $4000, another sold for $5000, and another for $17,000.
Either he bred some poor mares or they're awfully unfortunate looking....

Re: 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

How do non-live ( fake) bids work? Is that to stimulate interest? Let consigned save face if only low bids? Seems like should not be allowed and is deceiving to public. To me another example of the secrecy that pervades the horse racing and breeding worlds. This is a facet of ALL auctions, not just...

Man there must be something really wrong with the Leslie’s Lady colt to only go for $60,000 😳
I'm shocked by that. Figured he'd be right up there with the sales toppers.
How can he have been that bad??

Re: 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

Lustre is really off the Bernardinis. Hip 196 just struggled to bring $22,000 - filly out of an Unbridled's Song mare.

Re: Beach Bum

Oddly enough (or maybe not), Baffert also trained a "Beach Bum" of a slightly earlier vintage, who had a brief but promising career. :( I'm glad someone else remembered that. I'd thought it odd when I heard about the current one that Baffert had trained another by the same name, not so long ago...

Re: Stallion News

I've noticed that Breyer doesn't create new body molds very often for their model horses. :P Whose body do you think they used for Justify? They actually put out 3 new Traditional sized models a year, via the Premiere Club (which you have to be a paid member of, and buy all 3 releases). Those new m...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

Retro, Thank you for your response but can a foal that has shed out to what looks like chestnut to my untrained eye then turn grey? As Lurky mentioned, yes they can. Some chestnut foals can be hard to tag as grey early on, unless you see newborn photos. The hyper-pigmentation of grey foals is usual...

Re: Breeders Cup Upcoming Venues

Rick1323: Maybe fluky isn't the right word, but SA horses seem to have a huge advantage out there. Mandella had an entire season on a 2 day BC....... IMHO, horses who are stabled at and have trained and raced over a track will always have some edge over horses who ship in for a race. I'm pretty sur...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

Can a foal continue to change color after their winter coat has been shed out completely? Absolutely. The foal shed is traditionally always the darkest the coat will ever be, and is not indicative of adult shade. Once the foal has shed their initial winter coat, you should have a better idea of act...

Zenyatta sibling - sold at livestock auction

Didn't see another post on this. 1st saw it the other day on an OTTB racing page I follow, posted by the woman who bought him. Souper Spectacular, the $1.15 million dollar, Giant's Causeway, half brother to Zenyatta was bought at auction......for $390. Lady had no idea who the horse was, nor even wh...

Re: Justify

Ha, well, in the span of that few weeks we went from 'what if he's done racing?' to he's DONE racing. No shock or surprise, though for me a real disappointment. I guess for once, we can thank the Zayat's for having a majority interest in a horse, and the desire to finish out that one's season...... ...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

Absolutely NOT sabino, as there is NO SB1 in thoroughbreds... And again, SP is a far more extreme patterned version here. I assumed KIT mutation as TBs have a notoriously unstable KIT, and it's a pattern that's cropped up in several other TBs. So far, not tested positive for SW1, 2,3 or 4. Hopefull...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

he has the classic over the eye white and his markings aren't jagged ( so likely not sabino ), he has four high stockings again not jagged although he seems to have a stray droplet and he has white over his chin. The only difference with SP is his eyes aren't blue and he doesn't have the full facia...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

Re: Treve, While many of those foals are loudly coloured, they're not the specific splashed white phenotype that SP expresses. Socks and blazes are not abnormal within large foal crops. I'd love to see the gene discovered in TBs that mimics that pattern. I would not be surprised if Unbridled was a ...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

That boy has a LOT of white on him. :o Is that all coming from Bodemeister? Could he be cross-registered with a Paint Horse registry? Not necessarily from Bode. Likely a new KIT mutation. There have been other TBs who looked like true splash but never tested for it. Likely an unknown similar mutati...

Weighing in at 1271 lbs. this morning - 3 lbs. more than when he ran the Belmont. https://twitter.com/zoecadman/status/1016729787698536448/video/1 Knew the "he's lost weight" story from last week was horse puckey. Baffert had bragged after the Belmont that he'd lost none and was thriving, then afte...
