Re: Waiting for news on ...

Big Tire (Candy Ride), who began his career on the big stage, racing along side California Chrome and Hoppertunity in the 2014 Santa Anita Derby has ended up running in claimers at Thistledown. Last week (9/27/17), he was a DNF in race 7 - "injured nearing the far turn, pulled up and vanned off". A...

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Bank of Dad is with me! What a great guy he is! Old Friends has agreed to take him - he will hopefully be moving there after the 24th- thank you, Old Friends, you will be getting a sweet old man. Thank you to the amazing Rose Smith, who's heart knows no bounds when it comes to retiring these wonder...

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Agree, WarBiscuit- but the owner/trainer has been approached about selling him and she has refused. She intends to keep racing him, unless someone claims him first.

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Bank of Dad came in last in his race yesterday, beaten by 13 1/2 lengths. According to the chart had to check hard. Thank goodness this old warhorse came home safe. And WarBicuit- thank you for teaching me about a feature of equibase that I didn't know existed! Although now they changed much of the...

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

WarBiscuit- I looked up Frisky Ricky on equibase - the last 2nd place finish I see for him is in 2014, and I didn't see any recent van offs. Are they not up to date on their info? However, what I do see is that he is a horse who sadly has been performing pretty poorly for awhile and could use a reti...

Re: Other Racing: Quarters, Harness, Jumps

Great article, Northport. I enjoyed reading it, thank you for posting it. Tisbo's solutions are interesting, I would have never thought of those solutions for a difficult to fit horse.

Re: Other Racing: Quarters, Harness, Jumps

And she took him out to hunt in her exercise saddle too! Unorthodox - but gutsy! Fun to see. My ex used to trail ride our horses in his exercise saddle too, and his feet kicked out of the irons, unless needed - I always cringed and felt he may as well have been bareback- I always felt my saddles wer...

Re: What does "stamp his get" mean?

It is so neat to see these pictures. Thank you to all for posting them. Wonder how much Gun Runner will change appearance-wise when he becomes less race- fit looking, and becomes more "studdy" looking? I'm wondering if he will start to look more like dad? I have a Rock Hard Ten mare, who looks just ...

Re: Kodiak Kowboy Foals

Recondo finished 8th at Mahoning on the same day. I wish this boy could find a life away from the track- he struggles and hates track life. Former connections had him up for sale but he went to another trainer instead.

Re: In memoriam 2017

I'm not understanding why this is still happening- where is the industry support and rallying and fundraising for these horses like there is/ was for the SLR fire victims?? Is it because, for the most part, these are US racing industry cast offs that are beyond the usefulness for the connections tha...

This post has actually been going around Facebook for about 4 or 5 years. I can't believe it surfaced again. I had a friend send it to me again the other day. Iirc - all the horses are safe and have found homes.

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Wonderful to see the above list - hopefully they are all blessed with safe, happy retirements. One to add to the list - 9 yo Lady of Rivendell was claimed out of her 101st race by a wonderful group of ladies that were concerned she was running almost every week, usually finishing poorly. She was ret...
