Re: BC: Who's going?

Third Floor Clubhouse both days. Seventh straight Breeders Cup providing United Airlines has its act together....so I'll probably be there.

Re: Hoppertunity

TBH Hoppertunity is the only stallion worthy of breeding 250 mares. Dortmund got 25 mares his this year his first season standing in Maryland. In comparison, Valiant Minister (and his one-race career) received 78 mares in Florida. So regional markets are fairly unpredictable. And then, Army Mule st...

Re: 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

IMHO, Americain needs to move to Australia. A Melbourne Cup-winning son of Dynaformer might be appreciated there. Americain was Leading Second Season Sire in Victoria this past season. He's stood at Swettingham Stud since retirement. He's had fairly large books in Australia and his first class is t...

Re: 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

Just popped on and was looking through recent results. The Declaration of Wars are really bombing late in the sale.....one sold for $4000, another sold for $5000, and another for $17,000. Either he bred some poor mares or they're awfully unfortunate looking.... The Take Charge Indy(s) bombed as wel...

Afleet Again, winner of the 2011 Breeders Cup Marathon, died in Korea. He had become a pretty serviceable stallion over there.

Re: Old Friends

I do find it interesting that Blowen appears to have two standards: one for the superstars and one for the commoners. It's funny that he underestimated Mulhall and Blues as well. Blowen kind of skeeves me out when we get the "saint" pose with Silver Charm, Game On Dude, or the others. I can't forge...

Thank you. Thanks to all that don't allow what happened to Bluesthestandard to be conveniently forgotten.

Greyvitos is being pointed toward the Preakness, not the Derby, from what I've read.

Re: Breeders' Cup Derby?

Pretty much every reaction on the web or in print could be characterized as a gagging sound.........
Which means there's at least a 50-50 shot the Breeders Cup will do it.

Re: In memoriam 2018

Losing Russell Road is like a punch in stomach for me. I've probably seen him run (and win) 10+ times. Everybody at Charles Town loved that horse. The loudest cheer I ever heard at that track was his defeat of Lucy's Bob Boy at the 2015 Confucius Say Stakes on CT Classic Day. When he lead the post p...

Re: BC Complaint Thread

Having attended my share of Breeders Cups the last few years, I approached Del Mar being host with some trepidation. I had only been to the track once, last summer when Arrogate won an allowance race prior to the Travers. Overall, it was a very positive experience. The positives: I found the lines w...

Re: Derby contenders - Horse by Horse

Tough draw for Patch. 20 hole, the entire field is on the side of his missing eye. I might be in the minority, but I think if he couldn't draw near the rail, way out wide is a better place for Patch. Mid-pack, he'd be bounced around on both sides. Out wide, his jockey can bring him left under some ...

When is enough....enough? Apparently 10 years, 60 races and 2.4 million dollars isn't enough.
I love this horse but frankly I hope Ben's Cat runs very safely and very slowly in his next race.

I highly doubt Chautauqua will bypass the Manikato Stakes the 3rd week of October and the Darley Classic during the Melbourne Cup Carnival the first week of November to come run the Breeders Cup. Both are Group One races with $1,000,000 (Aust) purses. He qualified by winning the TJ Smith last year a...

Re: Arrogate vs American Pharoah

I think Pharoah's Triple Crown is the greater accomplishment. A 37 year drought speaks volumes. I believe if they managed to run the BCC - Pegasus World Cup - Dubai World Cup over a few decades, it would be accomplished more often than the Triple Crown has been. The spacing of the races is more adva...

Funny you mention Frankel. I was just watching a replay of his victory at Dubai. Or was it the Breeders Cup Mile/Turf. Or was it Hong Kong or Longchamps. I forget. Wait...if wasn't any of those because he never attempted any of those. What he did do was run safely behind his pacemaker, safely on th...

Re: 3 YOs of 2017

It feels like Calumet has had at least one in every Derby prep in 2017, and with trainers besides D. Wayne. Nice to see them get a win with a homebred, considering the enthusiasm and support Brad Kelley seems to have for the sport. True Timber is possible for the Wood. Term of Art is likely for the...
