Re: Jockey/Trainer News - 2018

Might be time to set up a 2019 edition of this thread, no?

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Wait, so thoroughbreds can run in QH and TB races? Yes, the races are usually 870 yards. Los Alamitos cards them quite often and has for years. One of my OTTB’s, Anniversary Year, ran in a couple of them in the early 2000’s. Turf Paradise occasionally cards races at 1,000 yards for "thoroughbreds, ...

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

I understand the sentiment but the names "Touched By Autism", "Myostis Mystique", etc just don't sound right to me. I don't care for breeders who saddle all their horses with similar names. There are bunches of horses named Starship this and Kitten that in the entries. Not as bad as harness racing'...

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

I just found this poor horse's name - she is running at the FG today - 4 year old filly with the name of myositis mystique. Myositis is an inflammation of muscle tissue who the hell names their horse after a disease??? As I live and breathe-- i just don't understand how some owners are so out of it...

Standardbred war horse Foiled Again , whom I am running out of superlatives for, won the penultimate race of his career Saturday night at Mohawk Park. That's his 11th win of the year, 109th overall. http://ustrottingnews.com/foiled-again-wins-in-canadian-farewell/ Replay here (6th race on the 22nd)...

Any word on the outcome of today's much-speculated-on, misreported-in-advance meeting?

Re: 2019 Graded Stakes

Question for those, like me, who were horse racing fans in the 60-70s before the graded stakes system was implemented....was there something wrong with our sport back then that got corrected? 1. Europe did it. 2. Apparently American breeders are too stupid to be able to figure out a horse's quality...

Re: 2019 Graded Stakes

The Breeding Industry no doubt likes using Graded Stakes races as a foundation for their industry, but what's the real downside to eliminating a whole bunch of 'em? If the breeding industry, already producing fewer foals every year, uses graded stakes as a foundation, will eliminating a bunch of th...

Meeting is next week
Should have realized that, seeing as how the story was published on Thursday. OK, thanks for the clarification on that. But I'm still curious as to what aspect of the original story was inaccurate. I guess we'll just have to wait for the outcome of the meeting.

Re: Saratoga Good Idea!?

I hope this is a one year exception to allow the hockey rink to be built. While Mondays are quiet, it is the one day of the week that allows leisurely activities like multiple trips to the paddock, or a trip to the rail to watch a race. It was an inaccurate report regardless. Meaning that it wasn't...

Re: Saratoga Good Idea!?

Interested in this as well. It looks like construction of hockey arena at Belmont Park (?) is primary reason. As someone who's attended in the past, I may consider a shorter stay there ($) but not sure. I like it. A five-day week will help with field size, and taking some of Belmont's July days is ...

Re: Uh, Wrona was just fired

I'm all for a little pre-race prattle and in fact don't quite understand those that shun it. The key is to find a public figure that compliments your own preferred style of handicapping. If you like the speed and fade angle, then MattyC might be your guy. If you like the sheet numbers, JonHardoon w...

Re: Uh, Wrona was just fired

I've always wondered about the value of what Harvey Pack used to call the "pre-race prattle" to the simulcast customer. I do my own handicapping, and if I'm around other people watching simulcasts, they're doing their own handicapping as well. It's a rare occasion when Andy Serling or Acacia Courtne...

Well, that is a pretty frank, though unnecessary, tweet. I don't mind his calls. Though I know one person who will be thrilled with this announcement. Seriously......that was the 1st thing I thought of sadly. Here's your big chance MHRC!! :D Magnahorseracecall ... I like it. But would Frank allow h...

Yep, it looks like it. Wow is right. Might help if they'd announce simultaneously what/how they are planning to replace these folks...but nope. Jeremy Balan Verified account @BH_JBalan 7m7 minutes ago Along with Michael Wrona's ousting at Santa Anita, simulcast host Megan Devine has also been dismi...

He has big horseshoes to fill. The original Prove It was a West Coast star in the early '60s and a good sire as well, IIRC.

Up the track at FG yesterday in debut:
Smithwick, by Liquor Cabinet (Ire)

Good choice, beats Guinnness and Harp, in my opinion.

Dynamic Scoring is still racing, last finished third in a $10K claimer at Portland Meadows in mid-October. Horsty and He's a Knockout haven't been seen since last year, Horsty at Emerald and He's a Knockout at Albuquerque.
