Re: Belmont Race #10

FWIW, the Equibase chart caller saw "no apparent incident," just a dull performance. Also, you wrote "bucked up through the field." Did you mean "backed up"? I assume the chart caller would have noticed a bucking horse.

Three horses entered in the Iroquois Stakes today- Drunk as a Skunk c. Midnight Lute x Uqood Royal Urn c. Kantharos x Born to Royalty Hog Creek Hustle c. Overanalyze x Candy Fortune Noodles is nothing compared to this. "Kantharos" is Greek for a type of drinking cup, so the name kind of makes sense...

Re: Jockey/Trainer News - 2018

Yes Franco and Stevens have a lot more experience but unlike other sports, there are no intermediate steps or minor leagues. There sure are. They're called Turf Paradise, Emerald Downs, Delta Downs, Fairmount Park, etc., etc. Some outstanding jockeys still pay their dues at tracks like those before...

Re: Clever Names for horses

I nearly lost my lunch over this one. Majestic Warrior is the sire. Waveland is his dam. She is a daughter of Woodman. The colt is named Majestic Woody. You may now wipe up all the coffee that splashed on your shirt. How does Waveland fit into the equation? Her name doesn't figure into it at all, b...

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

In today's 3rd at Saratoga, there is a Point Given son named Jiggy Cheese Dog . I'd like to know what the owner was thinking. Finished last. He knows what his name is. Eric Cancel had five rides yesterday. Three were on Jiggy Cheese Dog, The Glominator and Phone Funky Munky. How does he expe...

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

This name evokes a strong, angry emotion. JT's A.T.M. (Bold Chieftain x Neon Princess) Reminds me of a couple of cheap NY-breds I saw run in the early '90s -- Dream Lotto and Pony Boy's Lotto. That owner must have thought of them as money machines on four legs, too. Dream Lotto did win 8 races, but...

A 12-year-old who's happy at what he's doing. Khan of Khans won his 30th race Saturday at Suffolk Downs!

Softer spots elsewhere, I suppose. If the race had been at Delaware, it might have scratched down to 1 ... or 0.

While brother Jose is riding @ Royal Ascot, Irad takes the highly coveted Ohio Derby. Same, just different ;) Are you actually implying, that the best horses in all the world aren’t convening at Thistledown in June? Actually, they're waiting to convene at Suffolk's next racing and food truck ...

Re: Welcome to Arizona Downs

It'll be interesting to see how this impacts Emerald Downs. We'll see how many trainers keep their strings in Arizona for the summer instead of moving west. It also has the potential to impact field sizes at Canterbury Park, summer home to several Arizona winter operations, and maybe even Arapahoe ...

Re: How did NYRA do at Belmont this year?

Forgot to add this earlier, but speaking of things that get people excited about the sport... Gronkowski running second (in improbable and exciting fashion, too) was a pretty big boon. Have seen a lot of people talking about it online today, and there was plenty of talk at Suffolk today, though tha...

Re: How did NYRA do at Belmont this year?

Another note: saw a lot of people my age and younger using the betting machines instead of tellers. Not surprising at all and hopefully it's something that has been noted by the track. The union probably has a pretty strong word for how many self serve terminals are allowed. Are machines that take ...

Re: Suffolk Downs ... not dead yet?

I'm shooting for Saturday. With good weather, good racing and a Triple Crown attempt in the Belmont to top everything off, the place ought to be packed. It's hard to believe that it will be all over by early August, isn't it? The track seems to have taken on a life of its own ever since its "imminen...

I was looking forward to a fast track and firm turf, but the forecast four days out is afternoon and evening rain. Hoping it changes, as my Suffolk Downs pilgrimage that day will be scrapped otherwise. Watching this great Belmont card possibly decimated by scratches in the New Haven teletheater wasn...
