Re: Zenyatta News

That's a gorgeous little filly, but it's only to be expected when her daddy is basically the super model of Thoroughbred stallions. She does look far more like MDO than Zenyatta to me. She's even got the white around one eye that MDO has and often passes down to his kids. (It's not as prominent as R...

Re: What does "stamp his get" mean?

In the case of Fair Play, it's not really just the neck--it's the whole front end. Comes with that prominent wither and shoulder. Still pops up sometimes. Look at Da'Tara, who is a direct male line descendant of Fair Play: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ed/66/76/ed6676eaee0bb1aff1302a07bc333a60--kentucky...

Re: Fire at San Luis Rey!?

In better news, for those worrying about Square Eddie last night, the fire bypassed Ocean Breeze Ranch, and Square Eddie and all the mares and foals there are fine: https://twitter.com/AuerHeat/status/939164089812639747

Re: Foals of 2017

A chestnut filly from two bay parents. :D AP must have a chestnut gene from his chestnut dam, so not surprising to see him siring chestnuts...but the really interesting thing is on the other side. The nearest chestnut on the dam's side is four generations back...that gene's been underground for a w...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

My guess is a somnatic mutation--basically it's a patch where her grey gene is 'switched off', and tends to be the first thing I think of when I see a horse with a single random patch of another colour. It's possible it could just be funky greying. A bit weird, in that most horses tend to grey head-...

Re: Color genetics question

Grey x grey is more likely to produce a grey, but is not guaranteed to, depending on the genetic makeup of the parents. The two really basic rules of colour genetics, which I believe the Jockey Club uses to do a quick double check of parentage are: Two chestnut parents will always have a chestnut fo...

Re: Greek Derby?

For some reason I thought the Netherlands only did trotting races. Although it's a fairly horsey country, I'd read a couple of places they just weren't into Thoroughbreds for some reason. I looked it up and I am wrong; there are a few flat races there, but very few. Harness racing is more common. (I...

This is Coolmore Ireland?

I was wondering because I was at the National Stud in Newmarket last month, and they also had cattle, although not with the mares at the time. Wondering if cattle at stud farms is common over there.

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses

Pontiff , half brother to Pulpit , is entered in a 1 mile 70 yard AOC tomorrow at Will Rogers. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/WRD050316USA-EQB.html#RACE9 What's weird is there was also a 2001 son of Pulpit named Pontiff. Both US horses too. I thought that seemed weird, so I double-checked the...

I have a tendency to be Ms Paranoid, but when there was such a minimal announcement and delay for further details, I couldn't help but think something had gone wrong. Glad that it seems to be something minor and hope the little guy's fine.

Oh, look. Actual photographic evidence that Risque Remarque is alive and well and not hidden away in some back shed.
